As of mid-July 2026, the region is facing the prolonged aftermath of severe military escalations that erupted earlier this year, accompanied by the months-long closure of key border crossings like Torkham and Chaman. This paralysis of vital transit routes has not only inflicted hundreds of millions of dollars in economic losses and halted cross-border trade, but it has also created a critical barrier to regional cooperation, leaving thousands of travelers, traders, and families stranded.
The human cost of this ongoing deadlock is profound. Sporadic hostilities and border restrictions have displaced over 100,000 civilians and disrupted the delivery of essential food, medicine, and humanitarian assistance to millions of returnees and vulnerable families. True regional security cannot be achieved through continuous military escalation or sealed borders. We must demand a comprehensive diplomatic agreement that prioritizes open trade and economic integration, ensures the safe and dignified protection of refugees, and commits both nations to a permanent, non-violent resolution.
